Position: Field Service Engineer
Location: Elgin, IL. Candidates must be available for frequent travel (60%+)
Our client is a leading global supplier of innovative surface treatment technology serving the automotive and other manufacturing industries. The company is headquartered in Germany and has a US subsidiary office in Elgin, IL since 2009.
Due to our client's ever-expanding growth, they are now seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer who will perform inhouse and on-site installation, service, evaluation, test, troubleshooting and repair of the company's Open-Air and Low-Pressure equipment. This customer-facing role requires strong electro-mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills, as well as the ability to perform well under pressure.
Responsibilities:
- Provide high level technical support inhouse and to external customers; install, maintain and repair equipment
- Schedule service calls with customers
- Timely and professionally evaluate and resolve problems at customer sites or via phone/email
- Provide equipment testing and calibration, maintenance, trouble shooting and calibration services
- Maintain organization of materials, customer parts, equipment builds
- Identify the tools and resources required to perform the manufacturing task
- Provide product training for new and established customers; explain product performance & care instructions
- Timely complete associated administrative tasks and responsibilities (e.g., service reports, travel schedules, expense reports, technical documentation, write/edit templates, operating procedures and manuals etc.)
Requirements:
- 5+ years’ experience in field service or similar position
- Associates degree in Electronics, Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience
- Experience with low pressure plasma and/or RF systems desirable
- Experience in programming PLC’s and HMI’s desirable
- Experience with manufacturing automation
- Valid driver's license and good driving record required
- Must be able to pass background check and drug test
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation after training
- Excellent interpersonal skills, working with global customers and colleagues
- This position includes travel to customers’ premises, which includes all of North America (overnight stay); occasional international travel required (up to 4x/year)
