The Business Development intern will need to work out of the GACC Midwest office in downtown Chicago. As such, applicants must either currently reside in Chicago or be available for immediate relocation. Please note that if hired, proof of vaccination will be required.

The mission of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest (GACC Midwest) is to promote and assist in the expansion of bilateral trade and investment between Germany and the United States. Our Apprenticeship Networks Department supports our member companies and other industry associations, educational institutions and government agencies to cover the demand for skilled workforce in various industry sectors. To this end, we help with the creation of new programs based on the German model of dual vocational training and assist them with the management of existing programs. How You’ll Contribute:
- Support the establishment and management of long-term strategic relationships with referral partners, which include Career and Technical Education organizations as well as schools and school districts:

  • Evaluate outreach efforts and develop an outreach plan for partner high schools
  • Assist our team in outreach events and presentations with partners (virtual and in-person) to inform potential applicants about the program and generate interest
  • Answer inquiries from applicants and other interested parties
  • Assist with promoting MAT2 at job fairs and other relevant events
  • Support targeted outreach activities to underserved demographics in order to increase the diversity of the applicant pool

- Other duties may include supporting our team in annual exam development and administration as well as company outreach.

Qualification and skills of the ideal candidate:

  • Basic understanding of the German education system in general and especially the German apprenticeship system as well as an interest in the US education system
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to use research techniques effectively to gather market intelligence
  • Attention to detail is extremely important
  • Experience or knowledge in the field of manufacturing is strongly preferred
  • Experience or knowledge of apprenticeships is an advantage
  • High-level English language abilities, German language skills would be advantageous
