The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Washington, DC (DGIC), located in the heart of the U.S. capital at the nexus of business and politics, aims to promote and deepen economic and commercial ties between the United States and Germany. DGIC’s mission is to advance, facilitate and foster commercial interests of German business and investment in the United States as well as commercial interests of U.S. business in Germany. DGIC serves as a point of contact for German companies interested in the DC metro area and U.S. companies interested in Germany as a business location. It offers companies a networking platform on transatlantic business topics and connects the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHKs), the German Chambers of Commerce in Germany (IHKs), as well as trade associations and decision-makers from federal and state governments.

DGIC is part of the network of German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (GACC) and carries out its activities in cooperation with the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK). The Delegation is supported by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

DGIC is seeking a full-time, bilingual (German/English) (Senior) Manager, Consulting & Corporate Development (DEInternational) with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience. The Manager will participate in a wide range of DGIC projects and initiatives for the promotion of bilateral trade and investment between Germany and the US. This includes supporting our client companies to achieve their market entry/expansion goals in the US via services such as business partner search, market research, virtual offices, site selection, etc. Furthermore, the Manager will work in Chamber-wide project teams to support the organization and execution of larger programs, delegations, and initiatives, many of which include some form of government financing. The Manager will ideally be based in Washington, DC and will report directly to the Delegate.

The role covers a wide variety of projects and industries:

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Provide consulting services to individual clients, which may include advising companies on their US market entry; researching potential market opportunities, sales channels and partners; and other services as needed.
  • Find and develop new business opportunities
  • Maintain ongoing government projects, develop and draft proposals (mainly in German) and associated contracts for projects organized in cooperation with key partners, including German Ministries, the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI), other trade and economic development agencies, industry associations and chambers (“key partners”).
  • Prepare project budgets with multiple currencies as well as timetables for project deliverables.
  • Research industry information to identify and justify suitable project topics.
  • Liaise with key partners to identify new opportunities and concepts for projects.
  • Organize events and conferences, which includes selection of topics, acquiring suitable speakers, selection of venue, acquisition of partners and sponsors, marketing the event, etc.
  • Answer general inquiries in English and German
  • Support the ongoing activities of DGIC, supporting other projects and colleagues as needed
  • Build and maintain working relationships with key industry partners, organizations, and clients
  • Remain informed on relevant policy issues and technological developments in key industries and strive to continually increase knowledge base.
  • Identify prospective customers and project participants by using business directories, following leads from existing clients, participating in organizations and associations, and attending trade shows and conferences.


  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience
  • Previous experience in working with (German) government-financed projects and reporting strongly preferred
  • Very strong German and English language skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in managing multiple projects concurrently
  • Attention to detail, thoroughness, and high level of accountability a must
  • Self-motivated and highly dedicated; the ideal candidate will have the mindset of noticing what should be done and taking appropriate steps to ensure successful completion.
  • Strong interest in learning about new technologies
  • Able to work in a small team environment
  • Ability to build and maintain working relationships in the AHK network and with key industry partners, multipliers & clients
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint
  • Public speaking skills are a plus
  • Experience with both German and American business environments strongly desired
