About the Organization

The Bavarian Industry Association vbw is responsible for representing the collective economic, social, and sociopolitical interests of more than 135 business associations, as well as more than 40 individual companies. It provides advocacy, agenda setting, lobbying and networking services for its members. Simultaneously it aims to preserve the freedom of economic activity and ensure social accord.

Organizational Description:

Our U.S. Liaison Office New York works at the intersection of economic activities and economic policies concerns for our Bavarian industry membership. At the same time, the office is the contact for the U.S. American headquarters, whose subsidiaries in Bavaria are members of our association.

The office is closely integrated into comprehensive networks of companies and international financial service providers, economic policy decision-makers and think tanks.

Our services for members include support in market development, access to local government and administration, regional economic development agencies, banks and private equity firms.

On behalf of vbw and its member associations, the U.S. Liaison Office organizes and coordinates expert speaker panels in areas including economic policies, financial markets, product market developments for the interexchange of current views and expert knowledge.

Responsibilities:

Keeping abreast of U.S. economic and governmental policies, as well as latest transatlantic business developments in order to identify business opportunities for German companies in the Metal- and Electro (M+E) Industries in the USA.

Obtaining and furnishing of current economically relevant information, e.g. information on U.S. economic stimulus packages or other promotional measures and financial incentives.

Maintaining and expanding a closely linked and comprehensive network of companies, international financial service providers, think tanks, policy decision-makers and regional economic development offices.

Establishing and maintaining contacts with both U.S. American companies, especially in the M+E Industries who are planning economic activities in Germany or who are already present in Germany, and with U.S. American authorities and institutions relevant for German companies and their activities in the USA.

Attending and participating in prominent speaker panels and round table discussions on current economic and policy- directed topics.

Planning and organizing the agenda, and accompanying business visits of German entrepreneurs and companies, including vbw management and prominent guest speakers on current bilateral economic developments as well as U.S.-American entrepreneurs and companies to Germany. In particular arranging suitable discussion partners on both sides of the Atlantic in companies, institutions and authorities and supporting the delegations travel groups on site.

Maintaining ongoing contact with member companies of vbw with headquarters or branches in the USA,

including targeted acquisition of the added value for vbw from potential new members from the USA who have locations and/or activities in Bavaria.

Requirements:

  • Proven track record, strong background and expertise in bilateral German-US business management,informed and current on the state of and conditions of economic and financial markets.
  • Extensive transatlantic network in industry, institutions, financial markets and economic policy organizations.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills and ability to effectively interact and engage with C- level and other stake holders within an organization.
  • Professional capability and enthusiasm to fulfill activities under ‘Responsibilities”.
  • Proactive - Initiates proposals for new and relevant member services, keeping vbw management current on relevant cross- Atlantic markets issues, fostering and expanding member relationship and professional networks.
  • Ability to work independently while integrating well with Bavarian team members.
  • Highly motivated, comfortable in multi-tasking, high level of accountability.
  • Proficiency in business technology (Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, data base and on-line management tools, social media).
  • Strong written/spoken communication skills in both English and German.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Willingness to travel.

Compensation: Commensurate upon experience

Start Date: Immediate

Time Type: Part-time (20 hours/week)
