Our client is a leading German-based manufacturer of high-performance lithium-ion battery systems for a range of transportation applications (non passenger-vehicles). The company is investing in a new production facility in greater Detroit that will begin operations in 2020. They are currently seeking a Plant Manager for an exciting ground-floor opportunity to help build up the new facility and subsequently lead production operations and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct the construction and expansion of the new production facility
  • Oversee production and logistical operations in an economic and customer-oriented manner
  • Provide disciplinary and technical leadership of the factory employees (work preparation, production, logistics, manufacturing engineering and maintenance)
  • Project manage the planning, set-up and activation of new equipment
  • Ensure continuous productivity gains by optimizing operational and production processes (i.e. Operational Excellence through Lean Management)
  • Support short-, medium- and long-term budgetary and capital investment planning in consultation with company management
  • Manage personnel planning and lead operational staff, providing mentorship and growth opportunities to team members while taking corrective action for underperformance as necessary
  • Track and report regularly on operational KPIs to the company management
  • Lead activities to achieve quality certifications (ISO 9001, TS16949)
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations relating to occupational safety, plant safety and environmental protection

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as electrical engineering, production engineering or similar
  • 10+ years of leadership experience in a medium-sized production company with an automotive background as well as experience in Lean Management, Six Sigma and Project Management
  • Prior experience supporting the establishment of a production plant would be of significant value
  • Responsible, quality-conscious and entrepreneurial way of working as well as a high level of process understanding, decision-making reliability and team spirit
  • German language skills a plus
  • Candidates should exhibit natural authority, assertiveness and empathy
