The continuing mission of the German American Chamber of Commerce® of the Midwest (GACC Midwest/AHK USA-Chicago), a 501 (c)(6) organization headquartered in Chicago with a branch office in Michigan, is to promote and assist in the expansion of bilateral trade and investment between Germany and the Midwestern region of the United States. What does this role entail?

We are seeking a full-time IT Help Desk Specialist to join our team. Based out of our Chicago, IL office, the mission of the IT Helpdesk Specialist is to provide technical support and assistance to our internal users in resolving issues related to hardware, software, network, and peripherals. The ideal candidate for this position is detail oriented and security minded.  

Responsibilities:

  • Support equipment and software in the office including laptops, peripherals, phones, routers/switches, Wi-Fi and conference room AV
  • Serve as the first point of contact with staff who need technical assistance with equipment and software through helpdesk ticketing system
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve technical hardware and/or software issues
  • Redirect unresolved issues to the next level of support
  • Follow-up with staff on support tickets
  • Utilize remote assistance where necessary to assist employees who may be off-site
  • Provide feedback on processes and make recommendations for improvements
  • Maintain technical documentation on installation of software, configuration of hardware and problem troubleshooting
  • Provision new equipment for staff
  • Maintain inventory of equipment
  • Support special projects as appropriate

Who are we looking for?

  • Associate degree in computer science, or relevant certifications or experience
  • Strong IT skill set, including familiarity with MS Office 365 and included applications
  • General working knowledge of IT troubleshooting techniques; hands-on experience in IT support
  • High-level proficiency in the English language; German language skills are desirable but are not required
  • Motivation to gain hands-on experience in an international office environment as well as experience in supporting the IT requirements of remote colleagues
