GERMAN ISD is the only German Immersion Program in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex teaching children from 18 months to 10 years of age. The school was founded in 2009 as a non-for-profit 501 (c) 3 organization in the State of Texas. The school has operated with a financial surplus since its founding and does not have to rely on government funding to cover its cost.

Today the school employs 15 certified educators and provides more than 80 children with a learning environment deeply rooted in the German culture and education system yet encouraging the development of a global perspective.


The director/principal serves as a leadership figure within the school and the local community as well as serves as the chief administrator and leads the development of policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets. In this role, the director/principal works closely with, and reports directly to, the Board of Directors. The director/principal tends to the issues that concern the school as a whole and facilitates communication among the teachers, staff, families and Board of Directors while complying with established lines of authority. The Head of School should have a larger vision for the future direction of the school ensuring an environment that promotes the educational development of each student as well as the professional development of each staff member.


The director/principal manages simultaneously a rapidly growing pre-school and ensures that the elementary school is able to benefit from the growing pre-school population. He/She is instrumental in setting strategic goals for further development of the school and ensures that graduates of the school are able to continue their school education successfully with advanced public and private schools. He/she helps to define and implement in cooperation and close coordination with the board the existing and future role and positioning of the School in community of Dallas.

German ISD has been spatially expanding in one location and has been stably growing in the last 10 years. Going on forward, the director/principal will maintain and obtain necessary certifications for the school. He/She in his/her leadership role is instrumental in identifying future areas of growth and assess the chances to open additional locations for the school in the DFW Metroplex with its more than 7 million residents.


  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Arts degree (Education Major preferred) or equivalent experience; Masters Degree
  • Must be fluent in German and English and excellent written and oral communication skills in both languages are required (strongly required)
  • Knowledge in bi-cultural/bi-lingual education
  • Interest/willingness to participate in relevant professional development programs; administrative experience in an educational
  • Understanding the differences in German school systems U.S. school system and/or ability to acquire knowledge needed as it relates to school systems, education, certifications, etc.

  • Conceptualizes the goals of the school and plans to ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out the school program.
  • Responsible for administrative success of all school programs.
  • Oversees daily operations and a staff of currently 15 to 20 employees.
  • Ensures that the school is in compliance with all applicable governmental laws and regulations, and with the policies set by the Board of Directors.
  • Supervises all school personnel, directly and/or indirectly.


  • Recruits, selects and employs all personnel for pre-school and elementary school.
  • Defines the responsibilities and accountability of staff members.
  • Provides opportunities for staff participation in the development and implementation of the school program.
  • Provides activities which facilitate the professional growth of the school staff and enhance the quality of the instructional program
  • Orients and assists new staff; provides opportunities for participation.
  • Facilitates annual performance reviews/appraisals.


  • Executes the financial policy set by the Board of Directors, including communication of policies and decisions to parents and prospective parents.
  • Develops the budget and operates the school within the financial and enrollment targets.
  • Oversees preparation of salary, invoicing and bill payments for treasurer.

Curriculum Development/Education

  • Identifies the annual objectives for the instructional and extracurricular programs of the school.
  • Ensures that instructional objectives for a given subject and/or classroom are developed and involves the faculty in the development of specific curricular objectives in accordance to the school program.
  • Ensures the evaluation of student progress in the instructional program by means that include the maintenance of up-to-date student data.
  • The principal involves the staff in determining priorities for instructional purposes. Teaches as needed.


  • Represents and explains the school and its mission and programs to prospective parents.
  • Oversees and coordinates recruitment of students.

Ensures proper enrollment with support of the administrative assistant.

Public Relations

  • Encourages and organizes the use of community resources.
  • Cooperates with the DFW German – American community.
  • Represents the school program towards the community and promotes it.

School Facilities, Equipment

  • Oversees daily operations of the school, ensuring a safe and friendly environment.
  • Supervises maintenance of all school equipment.
  • Manages, directs, and maintains records on the materials, supplies and equipment necessary to carry out the daily school routine.
  • Advises Board of Directors on needs for facilities and equipment improvement.
