Position Title: Marketing and Admissions Coordinator (full-time)

About the School

The German International School Chicago (GISC) is a private, nonprofit, bilingual IB World School. GISC opened its doors in 2009 and is currently offering classes for students from Preschool through Grade 8. The school intends to grow through the completion of high school.

GISC’s curriculum is taught mainly in German with an intercultural approach. GISC welcomes students of all backgrounds and nationalities. Students learn in a supportive and individualized environment that nurtures curiosity and creativity while fostering global awareness. GISC students – fluent in German and English – will become well-rounded, creative, and responsible global citizens.

Job Summary

GISC seeks a smart, driven, and detail-oriented professional to support the organization’s marketing and admissions goals. This position is an ideal opportunity for a self-starter with the experience, skills, and enthusiasm to take on GISC’s marketing and admissions, including but not limited to multi-media storytelling, community engagement, enrollment, as well as other related office tasks including regular interaction with parents. The individual will oversee the school’s online and offline marketing efforts including event management, advertising, social media and website management, communications, and public relations.

The ideal candidate has a creative and analytical mindset as well as a hands-on approach to apply to our entrepreneurial and growing school. As an integral part of GISC’s team, this person will report to the School Director, and work collaboratively with the School Director, Board of Trustees, Director of Development, other faculty & staff, and volunteers.

Essential Job Functions Marketing Responsibilities:

  • Create and lead GISC’s Marketing Committee to determine a long-term marketing, retention and admissions plan and strategies for the school
  • Manage and own the marketing budget
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of the Marketing plan (including a timeline)- including campaigns, events, digital marketing, and public relations
  • Coordinate and execute all marketing activities for school and programs that include newsletters, press releases, event materials, print materials, “spirit” materials, ads, website updates, social media posts, marketing postings on external websites, and other communications
  • Work with staff members and volunteers to support their participation in social media activities and creation of promotional material
  • Establish outreach programs that widen the school’s network and positive relationships and reputation in and with the community
  • Oversee purchase, design, and placement of all advertising, performing research to place ads most effectively
  • Maintain and update the GISC website
  • Actively and enthusiastically represent the GISC in the community
  • In collaboration with the Director of Development, design strategies and implement concrete plans to capitalize on increased visibility and clear branding of the school to drive increased contributed revenue
  • Work closely with the Director of Development to achieve GISC’s Development and Advancement goals
  • Translate from English into German

Admissions Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a growth strategy and tactical business development plan that ensures attraction, recruitment and retention of students
  • Achieve the target growth and retention numbers in line with the annual budget
  • Develop and implement an enrollment strategy
  • Oversee enrollment documentation
  • Respond to enrollment inquiries by phone and/or email
  • Lead Open Houses or Private School Tours in the absence or to support the School Director

School Community and Public Relations:

  • Write, edit, and distribute publicity to the media (including, but not limited to, news releases, public service announcements, and calendar entries). Respond to media inquiries and set up interviews. Connect with local businesses about potential partnerships around events and exhibitions
  • Continually work to build relationships with media outlets (both traditional and informal) in Chicago and beyond to share our stories most effectively
  • Manage the marketing contact list, ensuring it is up-to-date and accurate

Community Engagement & Volunteer Management:

  • Continually research and apply new forms of internal and external community engagement to invite active participation with the GISC’s mission. Develop and execute programs to increase businesses’ and individuals’ involvement with the school and its mission
  • Develop, implement, and track creative strategies to encourage deeper participation in GISC’s programming by new and existing visitors and members
  • Coordinate volunteers for marketing and admissions events
  • Work collaboratively with the School Director, Director of Development, Board of Trustees, GISC Parent Group, faculty & staff, and other volunteers to grow the school

Office/Administrative Support:

  • Provide office/administrative support as needed
  • Internal and external correspondence (including answering telephone inquiries)

Required Skills/Experience/Attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required, Master’s preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of Marketing experience at a private, nonprofit school or at a comparable nonprofit organization or educational institution
  • Excellent communication skills (knowledge of German language and culture a plus); personable and diplomatic in working with diverse constituencies and capable of inspiring participation from partners, media outlets, and community members. Fearless in reaching out to media
  • Ability to lead a team and enthusiastic about teamwork. Ability to work well with staff and volunteers to promote the philosophy and goals of the School
  • Self-driven and able to multitask
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with one or more Adobe design products (PhotoShop, Illustrator, or InDesign)
  • Excellent customer service/client support mindset required

Work Authorization: Candidate must be authorized to work in the US; submit to a criminal background check upon hire
