The mission of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest (GACC Midwest) is to promote and assist in the expansion of bilateral trade and investment between Germany and the United States. All internships offer the opportunity to gain work experience in a truly bilingual and bicultural environment, with support from colleagues that can help speed the learning curve of understanding intercultural differences and nuances.

The main responsibilities of the Skills Team, among others, include to support our member companies and other industry associations, educational institutions and government agencies in the creation of new programs based on the German model of dual vocational training and to assist them with the management of existing programs, to cover the demand for skilled workforce in the industry. Requirements

  • Strong understanding of the German education system in general and especially the German apprenticeship system. Interest in the US education system.
  • General understanding of fundamental business concepts and HR strategies.
  • Ability to use research techniques effectively to gather market intelligence.
  • Strong technical and organizational aptitude and affinity.
  • Interested in the development and implementation of Quality Management Systems.
  • Very strong German and English skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support all aspects of the development, implementation and management of German style apprenticeship programs in the US.
  • This includes the certification of the program framework and content as well as the development, adaption, implementation and management of mid-term and final examinations for apprentices, based on original exams apprentices in Germany take.
