The German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern United States, Inc. (GACC South) is the official representative of German industry and trade in the Southern U.S.

Through our services and activities, we have built up an extensive network of members, which currently includes more than 700 representatives from business and society. One focus of our activities is supporting German companies in entering or expanding in the US market. We are part of an international network of German foreign Chambers of Commerce and delegate offices with 140 representative offices in 92 countries around the world under the umbrella organization of the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) in Berlin.

As part of our Skills Initiative, GACC South develops and manages several apprenticeship programs in the U.S. based on the German apprenticeship model in order to meet skilled workforce needs.

Therefore, we are expanding our team and are looking for an Account Manager in Texas. The position is reports to the Project Manager, Skills Initiative in Atlanta, GA.

Job Description:

This is a full-time grant funded contracted position with funding available through December 2020; continuance is based on funding availability.

This position is responsible for expanding and implementing apprenticeship programs modeled after the German Dual Education System in the State of Texas, initially focusing on the DFW area.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifying and directly contact companies in order to expand existing clusters and build new clusters for the ICATT Apprenticeship Programs by advising how the GACC South’s apprenticeship programs can help them meet their objectives related to a skilled workforce
  • Supporting and consulting companies in implementing the standards and the dual training system
  • Organizing employer events, leveraging current companies, to create leads and new opportunities for apprenticeship programs
  • Actively work with associations, educational institutions, governmental agencies and other stakeholders to promote German-style apprenticeship programs in the US
  • Working with local workforce boards to identify prospects and create leads
  • Active candidate outreach (i.e. acquisition of participating apprentices), to provide interested potential candidates with relevant information about careers available to them through the apprenticeship program (in person and in print) as well as to facilitate effective selection and hiring of apprentices
  • Attending job fairs in order to network with employers and students
  • Communicating effectively with program stakeholders
  • Documenting activities according to GACC South and program policies
  • Collaboration with other GACC offices for a common vision and methodology on joint projects

Job requirements:

Direct experience or knowledge of the following is desired; however, candidates lacking this experience but with strong willingness to quickly learn are encouraged to apply:

  • Familiarity with German (European) style apprenticeships
  • Consultative sales mentality and ability to develop and nurture long-term positive relationships with multiple touchpoints within participating companies, schools, and students
  • Ability to manage several simultaneous projects
  • Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle for regular company visits
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills
  • Self-motivated and highly dedicated
  • You have a high level of intercultural competence, particularly a good understanding of the US and German markets and familiarity with both business cultures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, German is helpful, but not required
  • Absolute discretion in dealing with confidential information as well as a confident manner combined with team spirit and dedication
